Emma Lee Raines is the owner of Eternal Slumber, a small-town Kentucky funeral home. She is also a “Betweener” who helps the ghosts of murdered people cross over by finding their murderer. Few people, well living people, know of Emma’s gift - her boyfriend Sheriff Jack Henry Ross and a psychic. Even Emma’s family is clueless, that is until Emma’s current client turns out to be her sister Charlotte Rae.
Charlotte left the family business a few months ago to join a larger rival firm in a nearby town and has been having an affair with the married son of the funeral home owner. Now she is dead and heartbroken and has no earthly idea who killed her. Emma has to find the killer to bring her sister to peace all the time knowing that as soon as she does her sister will be lost to her forever.
Over the course of the prior books Charlotte Rae has been an annoying character who was not particularly nice to her sister Emma but dead Charlotte is actually a much nicer person. The solution was not what I was expecting and the ghost cat appearing throughout is a nice lead in to book seven, A Ghostly Secret. All and all and enjoyable paranormal mystery series with a cast of characters one comes to care about as friends. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
