Judge Dredd: Inferno
by Grant Morrison, Mark Millar, Carlos Ezquerra, and Ron Smith
Rebellion/Simon & Schuster, $20 US, $23 CAN, 144pp
Release Date: July 17, 2012
A collection of two storylines and two shorts from 2000AD magazine, which were first serialized in 1993-1994. For the newbies, Judge Dredd is a lawman in a post-apocalyptic future of loosely allied city states called mega-cities, analogous to modern nations. The rule of law is harsh and carried out by motorcycle judges on the beat, without the old ways of lawyers or juries. These stories are on the theme of mass prison breakout. Purgatory and Inferno concern the bad judges held in the Titan prison orbiting Jupiter. They escape and return to Earth to wreak vengeance on Mega City One. The two shorts are Top Gun, with a city jail breakout, and the heartwarming holiday tale I Hate Christmas. ~~ Mike Griffin
